Seoul, South Korea.
Seoul, South Korea.

It’s been a while since I’ve been here. Too busy to take photos, so, certainly too busy to post photos.

Last night, I couldn’t sleep. I decided to clean, ha, thinking it would make me tired enough. I stumbled across a couple of rolls of film from four or five years ago that I had thought I’d lost.

My curiosity peaked I decided to scan them again. Weird thing, seeing photos I hadn’t seen in years. Considering I haven’t been taking many photos lately or even thinking about photos, it was didn’t help my sleep deprivation.

Looking at these photos really reminded me of the fun I used to have doing this. Its been a while since I went out to take photos. Honestly, I even kind of try not to do so. Try not to take “street photos.”

I always say they won’t mean anything to me later, so why do it.

Looking at some old photos kinda showed me the error of my ways. While its true, I don’t think taking photos for the sake of doing so is meaningful, I have kind of realized that even my photos of strangers are somehow just a big self portrait.

They are like the story of my life. Looking at them is sort of like taking the same walk.

For those who care, they were all taken with the GR21, t-max 400 pushed 2 stops.

When I woke up this morning (after not sleeping as much as I would have liked), I didn’t really think about these photos much anymore.

I thought the novelty had worn off.

Sorta strange thing happened then while taking the bus. I took a photo out the bus window with my phone. I took it because I remembered the photos from the night before. I thought about how I would want to remember this part of my time in Korea.

I took another then.

And another.

I was going to take more, but as usual, the night ended up like this:

So, excuse my incoherence. May have had an ale or ten.

Tomorrow though, I will go take some photos.

  1. I thought you deleted your instagram. Love these photographs. As always. Some day, I wish to have a number of photographs on my walls, each room telling a story. Keep posting, I will try follow this insta now. I am guessing it is new.

  2. You should definitely get back to doing more street. There is a look to your photographs that remain the same whatever you choose to shoot. You say they don’t mean anything to you, I understand that. I feel like that sometimes about my own work, but time helps in that regard. Sometimes it is boredom, bored of shooting the same things all the time, I get that, but returning later can bring the freshness back.

  3. These photos are amazing. I especially like the one with the girls checking their phones. I also agree with how every picture is sort of like a self-portrait.
