There are some really beautiful images in there Josh. I particularly like quite a few from inside the airport or the bus. I’m thinking of the the escalator partial and the 2 versions of the boy by the window in the bus (portrait and landscape orientation). Really nice set.
Thanks Stephen! I appreciate it.. The ones from the boy are actually taken on the plane and not the bus.
Super! IM impressed how you know explore light and shadow.
all of them are gourgeos jt.
i loved to watch Japan by you. thx a lot.
Thanks Betarr! Trust you are well.
I thought you were buggering off back to Canada?
Was definitely looking forward to shots of Newfoundland people.
haha, still going back! Heading back in January 😉 Just needed to extend my visa for a couple of weeks while Dani finished uni!
what Will said…????
eh?
ahhh.. Will be heading back to Canada in January for a while!
LOVE the escalator shot — great lines!
🙂
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I love these stunning images…! What do you shoot with??
Thanks! These were shot on a Leica M9P with the 35mm Summilux.
This is a group of the most powerful black and white pictures that I have seen in a long time. Congrats on being chosen for “Freshly Pressed.” Thank you also for sharing in our WordPress family.
Thanks John, especially since I didn’t even know what that meant until now 😉
Really enjoyed your collection of photos! . . . You really brought home how airports and malls around the world are much the same! Thank you for sharing your wonderful photos!

Thank you! Wish I had had more time there 🙂
Nice photo story. The black and white works great for these.
Thanks!
Fantastic…all of it.
Thank you!
Wow, first I love the black and white. I love the feel of the silence–of what the pictures exude. Very thought provoking.

Thanks Val!
Very well put together. I love the feel you’ve created with this series!
Great photos! You have really wonderful eyes to catch these thing. Keep up the good work. Congrats being freshly pressed!
Thanks for stoping by 😉
Beautiful shots! There’s just something about black and white images that intrigues me.
And of course you had to get in your dose of Kpop with Super Junior lol.
lol, adding the super junior poster was a little more for my korean followers. Most know I’m not a huge fan and am constantly shocked by it’s apparent “reach.”
There’s something sculptural about this style of photography – very enjoyable, many thanks and safe journeys
Thanks, I appreciate it.
At first I thought these were old school Magnum pictures… there was something about the quality that looks like film… Beautiful images…) Was this film or digital you used?
Hi! As I said at the bottom of the post, all the images were taken with the Leica M9P (digital) and the 35mm Summilux.
Super images.
Quite simply made for black and white, great choice.

awesome! see you at flickr!
I am traveling overseas next week and I am a frequent traveler. Your photos really captured part of the experience. You leave a small part of yourself behind and there is the excitement of the adventure ahead. Then there is the boredom sitting at the gate, the aprehension over all of the details and pains (going through customs, catching the next flight).
But traveling and the anxiety is far overshadowed by the things one can gain.
Good job on the pics!
I really like the lighting in these photos. Great work.
Really nice set of pictures! I like your blog a lot
These are beautiful images, they’re so moving. I love B&W photography. You’re really talented.
What simple and beautiful images! I love how contrasty they are it makes them mysterious. I never thought you could get such interesting photos in an airport.
Great black and white shots, they have an excellent quality to them.
Fantastic work
Like that you used black and white!
very beautiful images !!!
Keep on it !

stunning photo! thanks for sharing.
Amazing pictures, Great Job
Beautiful collection- you have captured the essence of Narita and through it Japan- the quirky fashion (shot on stairs) and the emptiness of the airport lounges, the clinical precision in everything dispersed by human activity….. as if it’s the place that run the people instead of the people that run the place…… the black and white is a great choice.
I think my favorite shot was the little boy looking out the terminal window. Gave me the sense of him waiting impatiently for his father to come home!
wow……..wonderful
This is really beautiful in all its simplicity and spontaneity. Would love to make a quick trip to Japan one day ^^
Great work and a super idea. For the first time I see the benefit of the over price Leica M9 — your compositions are fabulous and the quality of the images is uniquely Leica I think. Did you use in camera B&W or post processing conversion? Well done in any case and congratulations on being freshly pressed!
Really nice selection of subjects and i love your composition. Very tasteful. Reminds me of the film “Lost in Translation” directed by Sofia Coppola. 🙂
LOL at super Junior’s pamphlet
anyway, nice pictures
are you majoring journalist or what?
Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing. The escalator, umbrellas, and the shot in the airport waiting are TO DIE FOR. Wonderful.
Amazing photos.
Hi Josh, may I ask which program/add-on do you use for your photo slide-show? It looks really clean-cut and minimalist!
The White and black photos are cool ! I love it. And the angles you took were awesome! Thansk for sharing nice photos ;D
These pictures capture an impressive amount of detail and emotion. If you were to calculate the variables in any given shot, trying to recreate the same ‘feel’, you might come close, but never achieve the same magic. Simply brilliant light and shadow techniques on every one of your photographs, each has an incredible feeling of depth. Thanks for the great post, congrats on being freshly pressed, and keep up the awesome work!
Gorgeous. I especially love the way you play with lighting
I’m very impressed with these shots. Beautiful!
wow lovely pictures and a great combo of black n white 🙂
Brilliant capture of light and shadow in your photography!
I like the last frame, the one on an escalator. B-) The airport images show an emptiness, was it on a quiet day? Thank you for sharing.
Oh my oh my oh my what a bunch of splendid images of Narita! I remember my layover from Bangkok to Narita was a whole day so I went out and took some quick shots around this time of year-it was freezing!
I really like the one with the little child in front of the magazine stand. Such a size contrast. Thanks for sharing. The lighting is wonderful and so inspiring. Beautiful!
Beautiful! I love how you made something as boring as an airport waiting area look majestic.
your photographs are awesome!! 😀
awesome photos… 😉
its really amazing how you’ve played easily with the lights and shadows emerging..and at one point these both dwell to make a super picture!
nicely put! 😀
There’s usually a sense of frenetic colour imagined about japan, and you managed to cut out a stark still moment in these pictures : )
amazing!
beautiful, check out my stuff
these are really nice :)! black and white has its exclusive way of aggrandizing lines.
Absolutely amazing photos !
Especially love the plane seat and escalator photos.
Totally stunning, a sterile and haunting collection of pics
A good narrative with some cracking pictures in there. More please!
It’s such a pleasure to see this series set 🙂

Wow…the airport looks far emptier than I would have imagined an airport in Japan to look!
A bit of a whirlwind trip to Japan, but at least you can say you were there. 😉 Great photos!
These snapshots are brilliant. 😀
Gorgeous – I love black and white photographs! I wish I could have seen such nice scenes when I passed through Narita!
These photos are absolutely stunning, thank you for sharing!

Great photos!! I love the tone and shadow you manage to pick up. You are very talented
I love the photo so much!!!
Wow, great shots! 🙂
Beautiful images. Seems that you prefer film as a medium, do you develop the photos in a personal darkroom?
These are all digital! Although I do shoot film as well.
Hej from Sweden!
Beautiful, clean and stunning photos. Thank you!
Welcome to my blog: http://gullringstorpgoatsblog.wordpress.com

You’ve really captured some wonderfully evocative images here.
Your photos are very nicely framed.
I only slept over in Japan once but it was such an amazing and captivating city! I will visit my friends there in the future because I want to explore so much more. Thanks for sharing! Great photos:D
I love to spend time in Japanese airports, even though Haneda is my preferred one — in Tokyo.
Beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing.
hey–we were freshly pressed on the same day! love your photos. think i am headed to korea this year to visit some friends–your images are so inspiring…
Cool!
I love your photography, I just wrote about discovering Japan and falling in love in ten hours, great post!
You have such great technical skill. I immediately noticed how crisp and well-exposed the photographs were, and thought to myself that there was a very “Leica-look” to them.
Inspires me to get the camera out of my bag next time I go travelling. Thanks!
The lonesomeness of airports & shopping malls is kind of overwhelming. And this great story telling of yours is something more felt than seen. Brilliant!
All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.
Can’t believe how much you captured in just one night and place. Beautiful.
Wow, lovely black and white photos. I sense a bit of loneliness and solitary in some of the photos and there seems to be a feel of silence from them. It really captures the feel of airports, at least for me. Great job. 🙂
The black-and-white works perfectly with the subject matter; you really know your stuff! Well done!
These photos are strangely beautiful. The black and white turns the airport into such an emotional space. As a frequent traveler, it was interesting to see such familiar scenes in a new and unique way. Thanks for sharing!
I think B&W photography was the right choice for these elements. They bring out a different quality of the subject matter that would be hidden in color. Good job!
Great shots, congrats on being pressed.
Wow, some of the most atmospheric B&W I’ve had the pleasure to see in a long time, you’re certainly very talented
Beautiful…
Just stumbled upon your post. I love the feel of the B&W! 🙂
